Continental’s Automotive sector has decided to consolidate its activities in the Rhine-Main region by shifting the operations of its Wetzlar and Schwalbach sites to Frankfurt and Babenhausen. This decision is part of Continental’s strategy to enhance the competitiveness of its Automotive sector. The consolidation process is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with the sale of the unused locations in Wetzlar and Schwalbach. The goal is to maintain employment opportunities at the sites while leveraging synergies, streamlining work processes, reducing costs, and strengthening the headquarters of the Automotive sector in Frankfurt.
By merging the sites, Continental aims to improve its cost structure, enhance cooperation in research and development, and accelerate the market readiness of its technologies and solutions. A competence center for future technologies, such as high-performance computing, will be established in Frankfurt to further drive innovation in vehicle software and architecture. These measures are expected to impact around 2,300 jobs in Continental’s Automotive sector in the Rhine-Main region, with approximately 1,200 jobs being cut and 1,100 being relocated to Frankfurt and Babenhausen.
Philipp von Hirschheydt, member of the executive board and head of Automotive at Continental, emphasized that the company will work closely with social partners to ensure fair and constructive solutions for the planned changes. The goal is to strengthen Continental’s position in the Automotive sector, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation in future technologies.
